What do the pros use the PowerFoamer for? SONAX's compressed-air foam atomiser runs off your compressor and lays active foam across the whole car for the pre-wash — it coats the panels with concentrated cleaning foam and lets you loosen dirt gently, with barely any contact, before you ever touch the paint.
A proper wash doesn't start with the wash mitt — it starts with foam. In modern detailing businesses and car-wash setups, the low-contact pre-wash is a fixed part of the routine: active foam goes onto the dirty paint, pulls off grime, road film and organic residue without any mechanical contact — and cuts the risk of wash marks and holograms right down. The SONAX PROFILINE PowerFoamer is the pro tool for that step: compressor-driven, high foam output, and built for all-day use in a busy operation.
The low-contact pre-wash with active foam has come a long way in pro detailing over the last few years. Once you're switched on to the holograms, sanding marks and micro-scratches that careless contact washing leaves behind, you start rethinking the whole wash. The upshot: a two-stage process — low-contact pre-wash, then contact wash — has settled in as the standard. The PowerFoamer is the tool that nails that first step, cleanly and quickly.
The gap between foam off a PowerFoamer and foam from a simple spray bottle is obvious the moment you see it: the PowerFoamer puts down a creamy, stable foam with real cling that lays evenly across the panel. Spray-bottle foam is watery, runs off faster and gets far less dwell time on vertical surfaces. For proper results on an active-foam pre-wash, the difference in foam quality and dwell efficiency is huge.
Day-to-day from Detailing1: For the best foam, mix your concentrate at roughly 1:10 to 1:20 in the vessel, depending on how thick and how aggressive you want it. SONAX PROFILINE ActiFoam Energy as the active-foam concentrate is dialled in for the PowerFoamer system: the foam clings well on vertical panels and has enough cleaning power for medium to heavy road grime. Let it dwell for 3–5 minutes, then rinse it all off with a pressure washer — and only then do you go in with the contact wash. The principle: foam loosens, the pressure washer takes it away, the mitt just finishes off.
The SONAX PROFILINE PowerFoamer uses compressed air from a compressor to whip cleaning concentrate and water into a stable foam. It's the same idea as a pro kitchen's whipped-cream siphon: force a gas (air) into a liquid under pressure and you get a stable foam or cream. On a foam atomiser for car washing, that gives you a dense, creamy active foam that clings well and stays put on the panel for a good while.
The foam-generator head sets the consistency: different nozzle settings let you switch between a finer, clingy high-foam and a coarser, more aggressive wet foam. Fine high-foam suits delicate surfaces and freshly sealed cars; coarse wet foam is the one for filthy cars with stubborn road-film build-up. That flexibility on foam consistency is something simple hand-pump foam sprayers just don't give you.
The PowerFoamer's pressure vessel is made from a hard-wearing material that stands up to solvent-based cleaning concentrates. In day-to-day pro use, foam atomisers get filled with all sorts of concentrates — a vessel that gets eaten away by harsh cleaners, or starts leaking, is a safety and efficiency risk. SONAX builds the PROFILINE accessories to pro standard for daily, non-stop use.
You hook the PowerFoamer up to a compressor through standard compressed-air fittings, the kind already sitting in any pro workshop or detailing operation. Working pressure sits in the usual compressor range of 4–8 bar — no special kit needed. That makes moving over to an air-driven foam system painless for anyone already running a compressor.
When you set up the foam generator, the air-to-liquid ratio is what makes or breaks it: too much air gives you a dry, unstable foam that collapses fast and barely clings. Too little air gives you a wet, heavy foam that runs straight off. The sweet spot is in the middle: a creamy foam that holds on vertical panels for at least 3–4 minutes. Where that sits depends on the concentrate you're using and your water hardness, so you dial it in once for your own setup.
Running the PowerFoamer follows a clear sequence: fill the vessel with concentrate and water, connect the air, lay down the foam, let it dwell, rinse off. The whole foam pre-wash step takes between 5 and 15 minutes depending on the size of the car — time you get back through less mechanical work later in the hand-wash step. Less dirt on the paint when the mitt hits it means less scratch risk.
If you've got a lot of cars going through, it's worth getting a few vessels so one can be filling while the other's in use. The PowerFoamer is quick to clean between vessel swaps: a few pulls of foam with clean water flushes the residue out of the system. A deeper clean at the end of the day with a rinse-through stops shampoo residue building up in the nozzles.
SONAX PROFILINE ActiFoam "Energy" is the concentrate to pair with the PowerFoamer: the formula is built to break dirt down fast on a short dwell, and with the PowerFoamer system it puts out a stable, clinging high-foam. You can adjust the dose to how dirty the car is — lighter concentration on a lightly soiled car, a heavier dose on a filthy one.
The pro foam system is built mainly for commercial use, where a lot of cars get pre-washed every day. In detailing businesses the foam pre-wash is a standard step that takes a real chunk out of the scratch risk during the contact wash. At dealerships prepping new and nearly-new cars, the low-contact pre-wash protects the paint quality of the cars going out the door.
For private detailing enthusiasts with a compressor, the PowerFoamer is a pro-grade alternative to garden-hose foam attachments or hand-pumped foam sprayers. The foam quality is far higher, the dwell time longer, and it's a lot kinder on the wrists than the hand-pump versions. If you want pro-level results on your own car, the PowerFoamer is the compressor accessory that gets you there.
SONAX PROFILINE FoamSprayer is the option for shops or private users without a compressed-air supply: the FoamSprayer runs off a built-in pressure pump and gives you similar foam quality, just on manual pumping. To get started, or for the odd job, the FoamSprayer is the more accessible pick — for daily pro use the PowerFoamer is more efficient and easier on the body.
Put the air-driven PowerFoamer head to head with a hand-pumped foam sprayer and the difference shows up mostly over a full day: on one car it's marginal — on ten cars a day, the PowerFoamer's ergonomics and its steady foam quality are what count. A hand pump tires out, the pressure fades, the foam quality drops off as the day goes on. The PowerFoamer puts out the same foam on the last car as it did on the first.
Against pro foam lances for pressure washers, the PowerFoamer is a different category of kit: high-pressure foam lances use the pressure washer's water pressure to make the foam. The foam those systems make is often less stable and less clingy than the air-driven PowerFoamer's. On top of that, high-pressure foam lances only work tied to a pressure washer — the PowerFoamer stands on its own and works as your only foam system.
For shops that need both a PROFILINE DruckpumpZerstäuber for specialist cleaners and a foam system for the pre-wash, SONAX has both categories in the PROFILINE range. The DruckpumpZerstäuber handles the targeted, single-spot job; the PowerFoamer takes on the wide-area foam. The two cover each other in a pro cleaning workflow.
The PROFILINE PowerFoamer is aimed at pro detailing businesses, dealerships and detailing studios after a quality foam answer for the low-contact pre-wash. The 3-piece set gives you a ready-to-go complete kit with nothing else to buy.
For shops working the premium end of detailing, the PowerFoamer is also a talking point with the customer: a car that gets a compressed-air foam pre-wash before the mitt ever touches it signals you know what you're doing. Customers who get why the foam pre-wash matters value that step — and they'll pay for that kind of care. So the PowerFoamer isn't just a tool, it's a quality signal in the conversation with the customer.
The money you put into the PowerFoamer pays itself back over time through fewer scratch repairs and shorter wash times per car: when the pre-wash gets the dirt off properly, the hand-wash step needs less pressure and fewer passes. That saves working time and looks after both the customers' paint and the shop's own tools. For businesses pitching quality as a selling point, pro foam kit is a visible signal to the customer: this is a job done with a system.
