GYEON Q2M Bug Grime is an alkaline insect remover from GYEON that works through a combination of surfactants and mild organic solvents. Its pH of 11 breaks down the protein structure of dried insect residue and lifts the dirt film from the surface – without you having to rub the paint with a sponge.

Precisely this rubbing causes the micro-scratches that often do more damage after a summer drive than the insects themselves. Bug&Grime transforms a risky process into a purely chemical one: spray on, wait 3 minutes, rinse off. The result is a clean front end without a single new scratch in the clear coat.

• Alkaline formula chemically dissolves insect proteins. Insect residues consist of proteins, lipids, and endogenous acids such as uric acid and succinic acid. At pH 11, these compounds are hydrolyzed – the residues lose their adhesion to the paint and can be rinsed off contact-free. Unlike acidic cleaners, the alkaline formula does not attack the clear coat.
• Coating-safe when used correctly. The GYEON Q2M Bug Grime insect remover does not attack ceramic coatings, polymer sealants, or carnauba waxes, as long as the maximum dwell time of 3 minutes is observed. With excessively frequent application to the same spot, the hydrophobic effect may temporarily decrease – it regenerates after 1–2 regular washes.
• 80–150 ml per vehicle. A 500 ml bottle is sufficient for 3–6 applications. For the entire front (hood, bumper, windshield, mirrors), expect 80 ml for light infestation and up to 150 ml after a long highway drive. Practical tip from Detailing1: Always spray Bug&Grime onto cold, dry surfaces – never onto warm paint and never in direct sunlight. Heat causes the product to evaporate too quickly and leaves alkaline residues that are difficult to remove. If you want to clean immediately after a long drive: first cool the hood and bumper with a short spray of water, then spray. Allow to dwell for a maximum of 3 minutes. A second pass is always more effective than a longer dwell time on the first.

GYEON Q2M Bug Grime is used as a pre-wash before the actual vehicle wash. The product chemically loosens insect residues and road film, so that no mechanical pressure is necessary during the subsequent washing – this significantly reduces the risk of scratches during contact washing.

Spray the product evenly onto the dry, cold surface – the front, bumper, windshield, mirrors, and A-pillars are typical insect zones. Work from bottom to top so that the product does not run off too quickly and the dwell time is evenly distributed.

After 2–3 minutes, rinse off with a high-pressure cleaner or a strong jet of water from top to bottom. The dissolved insect residues flow away with the water without you having to touch the surface. Then wash normally with car shampoo.

Important regarding timing: do not let it dwell for longer than 3 minutes. The surfactants in Bug&Grime are saturated after this time – a longer dwell time does not provide additional cleaning power but increases the risk of residue on the surface. This is especially true in summer at temperatures above 25 °C, when the product dries faster.

For stubborn, dried-on insect residues from days ago, a single pass will not remove everything. Apply a second pass and additionally agitate gently with a soft detailing brush. The brush distributes the product and brings fresh surfactants to the contamination – this is more effective than longer dwell time.

For spot treatment on the go, Bug&Grime also works without a high-pressure cleaner: spray directly onto the spot, let it dwell for 2–3 minutes, and gently dab it off with a damp microfiber cloth. Do not wipe over the insect residues, but dab off the softened material – this prevents scratches even without a water connection.

Another detail for use on glass: Bug&Grime works just as safely on windshields as on paint. Insects on the windshield are often a greater nuisance than on the hood because they impair visibility and wipers only smear the residues. Spray Bug&Grime onto the dry windshield, let it dwell, and rinse off – afterward, the windshield wipers will wipe streak-free again.

He removes insects. Not insect etchings.

Bug&Grime reliably removes fresh and dried insect residues from the paint surface – that is its core competence. In addition, the cleaner removes road film, light tar splashes, and the typical summer film of pollen and dust on hoods and windshields.

First limitation: insect etchings in the clear coat. If insect residues remain on the paint for days in the sun, the acids they contain chemically etch the clear coat. These etchings are physical damage to the paint surface – no cleaner can remove them.

For this, you need a paint polish to abrade the damaged clear coat layer and expose a fresh layer. Bug&Grime prevents such etchings by removing insect residues in time. If you clean within 24 hours after every highway drive, you will generally not find any etchings.

If you only act after a week, you have to expect paint damage – especially on dark vehicles that heat up more in the sun. Dark paint absorbs more heat, insect acids react faster, and etchings become deeper. Here, quick action is the best paint protection – a 500 ml bottle in the trunk costs €13 and can prevent polishing costs of €200 and more.

Second limitation: tar and tree sap. Bug&Grime is formulated for protein-based contaminations (insects, bird droppings, biofilm). Hydrocarbon contaminations such as tar, bitumen, and tree sap do not react to alkaline surfactants – for that, Q²M Tar is the right product. Bug&Grime is less suitable as a replacement for a complete pre-cleaner.
