Wet sealant with lotus effect and layer build-up after every wash

Koch-Chemie Protector Wax (Pw) — Preserving wax concentrate based on polyfunctional reactive components. 30 ml to 1 liter of water, spray on, rinse off. With regular use, builds a layered wet seal with lotus effect on paint, plastic, and rubber. pH 4.5, VDA-compliant Class A, free of mineral oil hydrocarbons.

Mix 30 ml of concentrate into 1 liter of water and apply to the wet, freshly washed vehicle using a foam sprayer or pump spray bottle — never spray onto dry paint. After an exposure time of 2–3 minutes, rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure cleaner, paying special attention to residue on dark paint finishes. Do not store diluted product; always mix fresh. Store in a frost-free place.

Wet Sealant with Koch-Chemie Protector Wax for High Gloss and Lotus Effect

What is Koch-Chemie Protector Wax? A concentrated preservation wax based on polyfunctional reactive components, applied as a wet sealant after every wash, creating a layer-by-layer paint protection with a lotus effect. Not a substitute for polishing or ceramic sealing.

Koch-Chemie Protector Wax is a preservation wax from Koch-Chemie in Unna, originally developed for gantry car washes and established as a manual wet sealant for hand washing. Its effect is based on polyfunctional reactive components that form a network-like bond with the paint surface. The pH value of 4.5 ensures that the wax layer bonds chemically stronger than pH-neutral spray sealants. Free of mineral oil hydrocarbons and VDA-compliant Class A.

  • Layer build-up instead of a one-time effect. With regular application every 1–2 weeks, Protector Wax continuously builds up the protective and gloss layer. After 3–4 applications, the difference to a single sealing is visible — in the gloss level and water run-off behavior. This works because the reactive components cross-link with the existing layer instead of replacing it.
  • Drying without subsequent polishing. After rinsing, the water film breaks, and the vehicle dries almost by itself. In practice, you save 5–10 minutes of drying time per wash because you only need to remove residual water from edges and mirrors. Koch-Chemie calls this "Micro-Bead-free Drying" — the water does not form standing droplets but runs off in streaks.
  • Protection beyond the paint. The Pw not only preserves paint but also impregnates rubber and plastic parts as well as convertible tops. UV radiation and road salt are reduced by the wax layer — plastics fade less, and rubber seals remain supple. VDA-compliant Class A, thus also approved for biological wastewater treatment.

Practical tip from Detailing1: Always apply Protector Wax to the wet, freshly washed vehicle — never to dry paint. If you spray the concentrate undiluted, you risk streaks on dark paints because the active ingredient concentration is too high. The correct dilution: 30 ml to 1 liter of water. It is best to apply with a foam sprayer, this ensures even distribution and less product waste. Rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure cleaner within 3–5 minutes — never let it dry on.

30 ml to 1 liter of water. Spray on. Rinse off.

Applying Koch-Chemie Protector Wax takes less than 10 minutes and works without a polishing machine, without a microfiber cloth, and without curing time. This fundamentally distinguishes it from hard waxes, which require 20–30 minutes of processing time per vehicle, or ceramic sealants, which require paint correction as preparation.

Mix 30 ml of concentrate in 1 liter of water — preferably in a foam sprayer like the Gloria FM10 or a pump spray bottle. Spray the solution evenly onto the wet, freshly washed vehicle. Start at the roof and work your way down: hoods, fenders, doors, bumpers.

The product works immediately — you can see from the altered surface tension that the reactive components are taking effect. The 1:33 dilution sounds low but is deliberately chosen: Koch-Chemie designed the Pw for use in car washes, where only 13–19 ml undiluted are dispensed per vehicle.

After 2–3 minutes of exposure time, rinse everything off with a high-pressure cleaner from top to bottom. Thoroughly, with plenty of water. This is the critical step: if you rinse too little, you will get white wax residue on dark paint.

Then remove residual water from mirrors, door edges, and the fuel cap with a drying cloth. The rest runs off by itself due to the sheeting behavior. A common mistake in practice: some users then spray on a finish spray. This is counterproductive because the spray partially removes the fresh wax layer.

Koch-Chemie offers its own spray bottle with a printed dilution scale — practical but not a must. Any standard pump sprayer or foam sprayer works. At the self-service car wash, you apply the solution directly after rinsing and use the car wash's high-pressure cleaner to rinse it off.

Gloss and protection are built by Pw. It does not fill scratches.

Koch-Chemie Protector Wax creates a deep, wet high gloss — especially visible on dark paints after the third or fourth application. The gloss build-up is cumulative: each layer cross-links with the previous one.

In practice, a single application lasts 3–5 weeks. This sounds short compared to ceramic sealants with 12+ months of durability — but it's a different concept. Pw is a maintenance routine, not a one-time protection.

Those who wash every 1–2 weeks and apply Pw will have continuously better protection than with a neglected one-time sealant. Users in the community report that their vehicle was cleaner after a week of bad weather and 1,000 kilometers than after a hand wash without Pw.

This is due to the lotus effect: dirt particles adhere less to the hydrophobic surface and are partially rinsed off with the next rain. This self-cleaning behavior is called sheeting — the water does not form standing droplets (beading) but runs off as a continuous film, carrying dirt particles with it. Pw produces both: beading on the surface and sheeting at the edges.

What Protector Wax cannot do: fill scratches or restore oxidized paints. Fine swirls are optically masked by the gloss build-up but are not chemically bound. If you have visible scratches, you need a polish first before the wax makes sense. The order: wash, polish, then seal with Pw — not the other way around.

On ceramic-sealed vehicles, Pw is superfluous — ceramic already has better durability and hydrophobicity. Here, the Koch-Chemie Spray Sealant S0.02 is the more suitable choice as a coating refresh. If you want to protect unsealed paint and wash regularly: Protector Wax. If you want to maintain an existing coating: Spray Sealant.

Your preservation wax after every wash

Koch-Chemie Protector Wax is made for drivers who wash regularly and want paint protection with minimal effort. No preparation, no curing time, no subsequent polishing. Spray on, rinse off, done. Those who want their paint protected between washes without planning a separate sealing day will find the right tool in Pw.

Pw is particularly useful if you wash weekly or every two weeks and don't want to plan a separate sealing step. For self-service box users, it integrates seamlessly into the existing washing routine. With a pleasant cherry scent instead of the typical chemical smell of many wax products, it can also be used in underground garages and with the garage door closed. Application on glass also works — the windshield gets a slight beading effect from Pw, which improves visibility in rain.

Protector Wax is less suitable if you only wash every 4–8 weeks. Then the protective layer does not build up, and you are better off with the Koch-Chemie Hydro Foam Sealant S0.03. The Hydro Foam Sealant, as a foam sealant in the high-pressure cleaner workflow, offers longer durability per single application. An overview of all options can be found in our spray sealant category.

With the 1-liter bottle, at 30 ml per wash, you get around 33 applications — over half a year with weekly use. The 10-liter variant is worthwhile for businesses and fleets that maintain multiple vehicles. The 20-liter variant is intended for car wash operators and commercial detailers who dispense Pw mechanically.

Store frost-free, never store diluted product — always mix fresh. The reactive components lose their cross-linking ability when diluted. The concentrate itself has an unlimited shelf life when stored correctly between 5 and 30 °C. A tip for winter: Pw does not contain mineral oil hydrocarbons and is therefore more environmentally friendly than many solvent-based wax products — relevant if you wash at a self-service box with biological wastewater treatment.

The complete washing workflow with Protector Wax looks like this: pre-wash with snow foam, contact wash with car shampoo using the two-bucket method, rinse, spray on Pw, and rinse off. Less than 30 minutes for the entire vehicle, including sealing. No separate work step, no change of tools, no additional drying time due to the sheeting effect. This makes Protector Wax the logical conclusion of every hand wash — from the occasional washer to the fleet operator.

Frequently Asked Questions about Koch-Chemie Protector Wax

What is Koch-Chemie Protector Wax?

Koch-Chemie Protector Wax (Pw) is a preserving wax concentrate applied as a wet sealant after vehicle washing. It creates a lotus effect with high gloss on paintwork, plastic, rubber, and convertible tops. The product originates from the car wash sector and is used as a spray solution (30 ml per 1 liter of water) manually or mechanically.

How is Koch-Chemie Protector Wax applied?

Mix 30 ml of concentrate in 1 liter of water and spray the solution onto the wet, freshly washed vehicle using a foam sprayer or pump spray bottle. After 2–3 minutes of dwell time, rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure cleaner. Remove residual water from edges and mirrors with a drying towel. Do not store diluted product – always mix fresh.

What is the difference between Protector Wax and Koch-Chemie Hydro Foam Sealant?

Protector Wax is a preserving wax with buildable, layered protection – ideal for weekly washes. The Hydro Foam Sealant S0.03 is a foam sealant with a longer durability per single application, applied via the foam lance reservoir on a high-pressure cleaner. If you wash weekly: Protector Wax. If you wash every 3–4 weeks: Hydro Foam Sealant.

Is Protector Wax suitable for ceramic-coated vehicles?

Technically yes, but it is superfluous. An intact ceramic coating already offers better hydrophobicity and durability than Pw. For coatings, we instead recommend the Koch-Chemie Spray Sealant S0.02 as a refresh – it is specially formulated for the maintenance of existing sealants and does not impair the coating's properties.

What happens if Protector Wax dries on the paintwork?

If the diluted product dries on the paintwork, white wax residues will appear – especially visible on dark paint. This often happens in direct sunlight or if too little water is used for rinsing. The solution: never apply in the sun, rinse within 3–5 minutes, and use the high-pressure cleaner at full pressure. Dried residues can be removed with Koch-Chemie Finish Spray Exterior.

How economical is Koch-Chemie Protector Wax?

At the recommended dosage of 30 ml per application, the 1-liter bottle lasts for approximately 33 car washes. With weekly use, one bottle lasts over 7 months. The 10-liter variant is intended for businesses and frequent washers – it lasts for approximately 330 applications. Always mix diluted product fresh and do not store.

Application of Koch-Chemie Protector Wax Preservation Wax

Spray on after washing, rinse off, let dry

Mix 30 ml of Protector Wax concentrate in 1 liter of water — preferably in a foam sprayer or a pump spray bottle with a dilution scale. The Koch-Chemie spray bottle has a printed dosing aid, but any commercially available foam sprayer works just as well.

Spray the solution evenly onto the wet, freshly washed vehicle. Start at the roof and work your way down: hoods, doors, fenders, bumpers. You can treat plastic and rubber parts as well — the Pw also protects these surfaces from fading.

After 2–3 minutes of exposure, rinse everything thoroughly with a high-pressure cleaner. From top to bottom, with full pressure and plenty of water. This is the most important step: Too little rinsing leaves white wax residues, especially on dark paint. Then, simply remove the remaining water from door edges, mirror housings, and the fuel cap with a drying towel — the rest will run off by itself due to the sheeting effect.

Notes: Never apply Protector Wax to dry or hot paint — in the sun, the product will dry before it can react. Work in the shade at temperatures above 25°C or wash early in the morning. Always mix diluted product fresh and do not store it, as the reactive components in the dilution lose their effectiveness. Store concentrate frost-free between 5 and 30°C. Pw is unnecessary on ceramic-sealed vehicles — use the Spray Sealant S0.02 here as a coating refresh.
