Today in focus: car leather does not crack overnight, the finish dries out over weeks and then splits into fine lines. Go to leather care

From the blog: we measure 71 degrees on a black seat in the sun, and that is exactly where the cracking starts. Stop cracks before they start

From Friday: it turns wet, and the protection has to be on before that so the water runs off instead of clinging. Go to paint sealants

This week: Wednesday is forecast at 34 degrees, so the interior is a job for early morning. Go to interior care

Best seller: the COLOURLOCK „Pol Star“ concentrate handles fabric, leather and Alcantara out of one bottle. Go to Pol Star

Paint protection: the Soft99 Fusso Coat Light lays down a hard wax layer that rain runs off as beads. Go to Fusso Coat

THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie „CoverGuard“ — textile sealant for dry, stain-resistant boat fabrics

What does CoverGuard do on board? — This breathable marine textile sealant makes your cushions, sprayhood, bimini & cover hydrophobic, slows how fast water and dirt soak in, and makes cleaning far easier — invisible to the touch, quick to lay down, and it holds up long-term with regular washing.

THE FINISHER CoverGuard textile sealant reliably protects marine fabrics like acrylic/polyester canvas, nylon, blended weaves and carpet runners against everyday wear: water beads off, dirt grips less, and staining drops right down. The fibre stays breathable and keeps that factory-fresh feel – no greasy film. Best applied after cleaning with VinylTexClean (textile mode) and letting everything dry fully. Ideal for sprayhood, bimini, cover, berth covers, seat cushions and cockpit or cabin runners.

  • Hydrophobic protective film: liquids bead off and dirt works in more slowly — more time to dab it away, fewer tide-lines.
  • Invisible & breathable: the feel and air-flow stay put; no „plastic“ feel, no shiny patches when you keep the coat thin.
  • Real-world tough: it makes follow-up care easier, cuts cleaning time and keeps the clean look stable through the boating day.

textile sealant on board – water-shedding, fibre bonding & knowing your material

textile sealant like CoverGuard anchors as a fine film into the fibre structure: the hydrophobic groups point outward, so water pulls into droplets instead of wicking in, and that slows how quickly water and dirt get through. Because the film stays ultra-thin, breathability barely changes – the fabric still feels like fabric, not something coated. On the acrylic/polyester canvas of sprayhoods and biminis especially, this stops the quick „soak-through“ in spray or rain and makes later drying faster and mark-free. On interior fabrics, CoverGuard cuts everyday marks like drink spills or wet-clothing stains without stiffening the hand.

Applying it to sprayhood, bimini & cushions

Application works when the base is dry, clean and cool. After cleaning (VinylTexClean in textile mode), let the fabric dry all the way through. In the shade, mist CoverGuard on evenly in a cross pattern, lift the fibres a touch with a soft brush and go over it once more with a thin pass until you see an even saturation – don't soak it. Give the edges, seams and high-wear zones extra attention. Wipe any overspray off gelcoat or glass straight away; plastic windows stay SeaYou's job. Full hydrophobics land after 12–24 hours of drying; before then, don't stress it or let it get soaked.

Durability, upkeep & a care schedule

Durability comes down to sun, salt and how often you wash. Exposed outdoor surfaces (sprayhood/bimini) naturally want a top-up sooner than cabin fabrics. Check how it beads: once no droplets form, clean again, let it dry and lay a thin coat of CoverGuard back on. A sensible rhythm: outdoor surfaces every few weeks to once a quarter depending on the season, interior fabrics less often. A regular rinse or wash pulls salt out, stops build-up and keeps the look even. CoverGuard adds to – but doesn't replace – proper drying and airing on board.

Common questions about THE FINISHER × Koch-Chemie „CoverGuard“ — textile sealant

Which materials is CoverGuard suitable for?

Acrylic/polyester canvas (sprayhood, bimini, cover), nylon, blended weaves, carpet runners and seat fabrics. Not for leather, vinyl, non-skid decks or plastic windows.

Does CoverGuard change the feel or breathability?

With a thin coat the hand stays factory-fresh and the fibre stays breathable. Too much product can make the fabric feel stiffer – so always work in thin layers.

How long does the sealant need to dry?

Depending on temperature, 12–24 hours. Don't stress it or soak it in that window. After that you get the full hydrophobics.

Can I do the windows or vinyl at the same time?

No. Plastic windows go to SeaYou, vinyl gets cleaned with VinylTexClean and cared for with VinylGuard. That keeps look and feel right for each material.

How often should I refresh it?

Exposed outdoor fabrics every few weeks to a quarter depending on salt and sun, interior fabrics less often. The bead test is your guide: when beading fades, lay on a thin refresh.
