What is GYEON Q² FabricCoat? GYEON Q² FabricCoat is an SiO₂-based textile sealant for fabric, Alcantara, and convertible roof surfaces that permanently impregnates fibers, makes liquids bead up, and keeps dirt and stains on the surface – for easy cleaning and long-lasting protection.

Textile seats, Alcantara trim, and convertible roofs are the most demanding surfaces in a vehicle – they are prone to stains, absorb odors, and are difficult to clean. GYEON Q² FabricCoat fundamentally changes the surface properties of textiles: The ceramic formulation penetrates the fibers and coats them at a microscopic level with an SiO₂ layer. The result is an impregnated surface where liquids bead up, dirt doesn't penetrate, and stains can be simply dabbed off.

• Fiber protection at a microscopic level – not a surface coating. Q² FabricCoat penetrates the textile fibers instead of just lying on them. This means: The protective properties are retained even when the surface is mechanically stressed – the result is more durable than a simple spray impregnation.
• Liquids bead up – stains stay on the surface. Coffee, water, soft drinks – on sealed textiles, liquids remain as droplets on the surface and can be simply dabbed off before they can penetrate. Practical tip from Detailing1: Always apply GYEON Q² FabricCoat to completely clean, dry textile. First remove stains or dirt with GYEON Q²M FabricCleaner and let dry completely. Then spray FabricCoat evenly from a distance of approx. 20–30 cm, spread evenly with a cloth, and allow to fully cure (24 hours). Do not rub in – the product penetrates by itself.

How SiO₂ impregnates textiles: Technology behind Q² FabricCoat

Conventional textile impregnating sprays use fluorocarbon compounds (PTFE/DWR), which form a hydrophobic layer on the fibers. These coatings are temporary, wash out quickly with regular cleaning, and are increasingly restricted due to ecological concerns. GYEON Q² FabricCoat uses SiO₂ chemistry: silicon dioxide particles that chemically bond with the textile fibers and permanently change their surface tension. The result is a more robust impregnation that withstands several cleaning cycles and contains no questionable fluorine compounds. The fibers continue to breathe, and the look and feel of the textile remain unchanged.

Application on car seats, Alcantara, and convertible roofs

Before applying GYEON Q² FabricCoat, the surface must be completely clean and dry. On car seats: First clean with Q²M FabricCleaner, dry, then spray FabricCoat evenly onto the seat surfaces and let it work. On Alcantara: apply very sparingly and do not rub in, as Alcantara is sensitive to mechanical friction. On convertible roofs: Spray on in dry weather, spread evenly with a soft brush, and allow to fully cure – ideally overnight. After curing, the textile is impregnated and can be immediately tested with water: Water beads up and rolls off the surface.

Areas of application: When Q² FabricCoat brings its greatest benefit

GYEON Q² FabricCoat is particularly valuable for vehicles that are used intensively: family vehicles with children (spills and stains), vehicles with pets (dirt and hair residue), convertibles with soft tops (rain and mold protection), and vehicles with high-quality Alcantara upholstery (which can be permanently damaged by stains). Boat seats made of textile or marine textiles can also be protected with FabricCoat. For leather surfaces, however, GYEON Q² LeatherShield EVO is the right choice – it is specially designed for leather and artificial leather.

FabricCoat vs. classic textile impregnating spray: What makes the difference

Inexpensive textile impregnating sprays from hardware stores or outdoor retailers are designed for outdoor textiles (jackets, tents) – not for the finer structures of car upholstery or Alcantara. They can harden textiles, leave residues, or cause stains on Alcantara. GYEON Q² FabricCoat has been developed for vehicle textiles: finer particle size, gentle formulation, and optimized for the materials used in automobiles.
