The Kunststoff-Teufel is an alkaline, surfactant-based intensive interior cleaner. It removes nicotine film, fingerprints, skin oils, coffee stains, cosmetics, hair gel splashes, and the greasy dust layer that accumulates over the years on dashboards, door panels, center consoles, and steering wheels. For us at Detailing1, it's the go-to cleaner for car interiors when soap and microfiber alone are no longer enough. Anyone who has used it to recondition a five-year-old lease return will understand why it's indispensable in an interior kit.

Interior plastics don't look bad because the plastic is aging. They look bad because skin oils, dust, and UV stabilizers form an adhesive layer. This layer must be removed before any care product becomes effective.

• Surfactant-loaded and foam-stable. Lifts the dirt layer evenly from the surface, allowing you to pick it up with a cloth or brush.
• Universal for interiors. Plastic, leather, Alcantara, textiles, headliners, carpets, seatbelts. Can be used anywhere where soapy water would be too weak.
• Dilutable 1:5 to 1:20. Undiluted for stubborn cases, diluted for leather and Alcantara. One liter yields up to 20 liters of working solution.

The formula combines anionic and non-ionic surfactants with a mildly alkaline builder in the pH 10 range. Surfactants reduce the interfacial tension between water and skin oil, causing the greasy adhesive layer to break down into micro-emulsions. The builder simultaneously binds water hardness, preventing calcium soaps from being left behind. This precise interaction is why the surface looks matte and dry after treatment, rather than sticky or greasy. The dirt is gone, and the plastic can once again absorb care products like a plastic conditioner.

A common misconception: "Cockpit sprays" from the supermarket are not cleaners, but silicone-based shine dressings. They leave a greasy film over existing dirt, and in summer sun, this film evaporates onto the windshield, leaving a milky haze. The Kunststoff-Teufel works in the opposite direction: it removes what silicone sprays only conceal. This is the fundamental difference between cleaning and care, and understanding it permanently solves many more interior problems.

What many underestimate: The visible "graying" of old dashboards is almost never material fatigue. It's a mixture of oxidized skin oil, deposited plasticizers, and fine fiber dust from clothing and textile seats. After a thorough Kunststoff-Teufel treatment, the dashboard often appears years younger, without a single drop of dressing being involved. This is the most honest proof of efficacy an interior cleaner can provide.

Practical tip from Detailing1: When working with plastic, always work in sections of a maximum of 30 by 30 centimeters. The cleaner should act, but not dry. Spray onto the brush or a microfiber cloth, not directly onto the dashboard. Direct spraying drives the liquid into crevices, ventilation slots, and behind the instrument cluster, where it neither comes out nor is desired. Work into seams with a clean detailing brush, wipe with a second fresh microfiber cloth, and turn the cloth over after each section.

Spray, let it work, wipe clean.

The sequence is simple, yet many make the same mistake. First, remove dry dust with a soft brush or an airbrush. Loose particles, sand residues, and hairs do not belong in your cleaning sponge, as they will cause scratches when wiping. Spray Kunststoff-Teufel onto a microfiber cloth or detailing brush, never directly onto the surface. Work it in with circular motions, especially in textured areas like grained ABS plastic, where grease tends to accumulate. Allow to dwell for 30 to 60 seconds, up to three minutes for heavy soiling. Then wipe with a second microfiber cloth lightly dampened with clean water. The second cloth is important: it removes the dissolved dirt along with cleaner residues from the surface. Finally, polish with a dry cloth.

For leather and Alcantara: Dilute Kunststoff-Teufel 1:10 to 1:20 with distilled or tap water. Undiluted, it is too aggressive for these surfaces and can attack the fatty layer of grain leather. On textile seats and floor mats, you can dilute it 1:5 and work it in with an upholstery brush, then extract with a wet vacuum cleaner or a damp microfiber cloth. For infotainment system controls, high-gloss piano black trim, and displays, use the cleaner highly diluted and very sparingly. These surfaces are sensitive to any type of alkali, and the scratches caused by too intensive wiping cannot be removed.

Not on hot surfaces. Not on displays. Not pure on leather.

The Kunststoff-Teufel is designed for cleaning, not for care. It leaves no protective film, no dressing, and no shine. After cleaning, the surface is matte and plain. This is precisely what is desired, because now a plastic conditioner or leather care product can be applied precisely and absorbed without mixing with old dirt. If you want shiny surfaces immediately after cleaning, this is not the right product for you. If you want a clean base before applying care, this is correct. Furthermore, the cleaner is not intended for hot surfaces. Black dashboards can easily reach 60 degrees after an hour in the sun. If you apply a surfactant cleaner there, it will dry in seconds, leaving streaks and limescale spots. Always work in the shade or indoors. Another note: Undiluted Kunststoff-Teufel is not suitable for uncoated wood applications in the cockpit, for matte piano lacquer finishes, and for Plexiglas covers of old instrument clusters. Always test in an inconspicuous area first.

For taxis, driving school cars, and company fleets with a smoking history, we recommend using the cleaner undiluted or only slightly diluted (1:2). Nicotine film is a sticky resin layer that penetrates deep into the pores of the plastic and causes ordinary soap cleaners to simply bead off. The alkaline builder in Kunststoff-Teufel saponifies the resin component, making it water-soluble. For heavily nicotine-stained vehicles, two to three passes are necessary until the cloth remains clean after wiping. Wait ten minutes between passes and ventilate, as the dissolved nicotine odor is released into the room air. After treatment, the odor nuisance is not gone, but significantly reduced. For complete odor neutralization, an ozone generator or an enzyme-based odor remover is then used. The Kunststoff-Teufel provides the chemical deep cleaning that must precede any further treatment.

A combination we always use in detailing: Kunststoff-Teufel first over the entire cockpit, then let it dry, and then an interior care product on the cleaned surface. Without prior cleaning, any plastic conditioner will run on a greasy layer and form a sticky, dust-attracting layer over the old dirt. After cleaning, the care product then becomes what it should be: a thin, invisible protective layer against UV and new contamination.

The Cleaner for Dashboards, Door Panels, and Headliners

In the classic detailing workflow, it comes after vacuuming and before polishing the glass surfaces, so you have clean plastic surfaces before continuing with a fresh cloth. Anyone who completely cleans their company car quarterly will experience the biggest jump after the first treatment: the steering wheel, gear knob, and the areas around the door handle visibly shed their grayish-brown patina.

The Kunststoff-Teufel is available as a 1-liter spray bottle with a red sprayer for spot application and as a 5-liter canister for detailing operations or for anyone who regularly cleans multiple vehicles. One liter, when diluted 1:10, is sufficient for about twenty complete interior cleanings. After opening, the cleaner is stable for at least 24 months, and significantly longer if stored in a cool place. Protective gloves are recommended for direct contact, as the cleaner is mildly alkaline and can degrease the skin with prolonged contact. In case of splashes into the eyes, rinse with clear water and consult a doctor. A quick note on storage: Do not store below five degrees Celsius or above thirty degrees Celsius to keep the surfactants stable and prevent them from separating from the aqueous phase. In case of separation, a brief shake is usually sufficient, but consistent storage temperature significantly extends shelf life.
